Adopt a dog: you won’t regret it

Owning a dog is has been one of the best experiences of my life. A dog is a great addition to any family and I have had the privilege to own two dogs in my life so far. Being a dog owner comes with its ups and downs but at the end of the day is one of the most rewarding adventures to occur.

When I was younger, my parents got a family dog but we did not adopt. We had 13 wonderful years with our first dog and truly loved her. We named her Annie and she was a part of some the most important years of my sister and I’s childhood.

When I was ending my freshman year at Cabrini, however, Annie passed away. We went a year without a dog as we got eventually got used to the quiet and not hearing the tapping of a dog’s nails on the floor, the panting of when she got hot or the jangle of the collar.

As we passed the year mark and my sister both were home for different reasons, we realized just how much not having a dog left a hole in our home. That was the final push to convince my family to finally get one.

This time we were adopting.

We had our pick of places we could go that were local, but a shelter in Media, Pennsylvania called

Providence Animal Shelter had made an appearance at Cabrini University with coverage from Action News on ABC. Since that appearance, my mother had been following the shelter’s work on social media.

On July 14 2018, my family drove to Media, Pennsylvania to find a dog to add to our family.

On Providence Animal Shelter’s Instagram page, we had seen this one puppy that was a part of a litter that had just been saved and moved to the shelter from Mississippi. We fell in love with her picture and decided to adopt her.

When we got there we played with her for a while to see if she liked us and decided we had made the correct decision. She did. After that, we filled out the paperwork and brought her back to New Jersey.

It has been an adventure that I would not change for the world. I not only highly encourage people to adopt a pet in general, but to specifically adopt from Providence Animal Shelter. In 2018 alone, the shelter exceeded its adoption goals with a total of 3,664 adoptions of cats and dogs.

The shelter does not focus on just Media and surrounding areas. It has a team of volunteers that go to weather disaster areas so that they can save abandoned or lost pets.

It also does various events throughout a given year in order to show off their animals. The shelter can be found in places like King of Prussia Mall and Cabrini University with all kinds of dogs and cats in the hopes that people will adopt them.

There is also a social media presence on Twitter and, more specifically, Instagram. On both platforms, a follower can find many pictures of cute, lovable animals in need of homes. It is also a platform for Providence Animal Shelter to advertise the fact that they often have significant discounts or covered adoption fees, classes for training a new pet and more.

They also take donations of food, toys, crates and so many other necessities that are needed to help homeless animals
