Cabrini Communication Major Awards 2008-2018:

  1. College Media Association Pinnacle Award 2017 to Angelina Miller and Hope Daluisio for First Place for Best Multimedia Breaking News Story.

 

  1. Gold Davey Award: to the social justice website created by the 2016-17 Communication Department senior honors convergence class. The winning fixforaddiction.com site is titled – Fix For Addiction: Exploring Solutions for Addiction and Substance Abuse. Congratulations and kudos go to these Cabrini University alums who worked on the site: Keith Brown, Jessica Ferrarelli, Jaclyn Labes, Brianna Morrell, Katie Muska, Jill Nawoyski, Moira Prior, Emily Rowan, Casey Semenza, Allie Stein and Drew Vernon. It won in the Websites – Activism category.

 

  1. The SPJ Mark of Excellence regional judges have selected Emily Rowan as a finalist in the Photo Illustration (Small) 1-9,999 Students category this year’s Region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards!

  1. Best Multimedia Feature Website 2012 to Senior Honors Convergence students for YouthVoicesRise.com , awarded by the College Media Association

 

  1. The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Small Program Interest Group awarded Cathy Yungmann first prize in the Scholarship of Application Competition for her submission of the course and resulting site as “A Prototype for Global Student Journalism: Covering Conflict Without Going There.”   This competition revolves around the best ideas linking academic interests and skills to a broader audience.

 

  1. The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Teaching Committee has recognized the inventive integration of technology-based pedagogy involved in the creation of the web site/eBook in the Communication Department capstone The Arab Awakening: A View from the Inside.

  1. The 2011 Gold Circle Awards for Newspapers Elizabeth Krupka and Alyssa Mentzer. In-depth news/feature story: “War, rape fueled by our phones, computers.” This story originated with a visit by two CRS representatives from the Congo in summer 2010. Alyssa and Liz did extensive reporting with rape counselors in the Congo, New York Times reporters, and other participants in the passing of the Dodd-Frank Bill, which regulates the use of conflict minerals in American technology devices, like smart phones.  2nd place.

 

  1. Kelsey Kastrava. Personality Profile. “Young refugees ‘lost’ and found in local woman’s home.” This story profiles a local woman who took in and raised several “Lost Boys of Sudan.” 3rd place.

  1. Video students and professor produced a video on Peacebuilding in Gaza, which was used as part of two Global Solidarity Network sessions on peacebuilding. Fall 2008. Seen by 600 students at 5 universities.

  1. Collegiate Keystone Press Award Honorable Mention to Jillian Smith for Loquitur article, “Side-By-Side with Africa”

 

  1. 2008 Meghan Hurley and Amanda Finnegan. The Egan Award for Journalistic Excellence recognizes journalists who demonstrate excellence in reporting on humanitarian and social justice issues. The awards are judged by an independent, expert panel from the secular media that is knowledgeable on issues pertaining to the developing world. Category: Series from a Publication with Regional/Local Circulation. The 2008 winners will be awarded a trophy and a trip to the Middle East to witness the work of Catholic Relief Services.
