Brian Wiggins is fulfilling his desire to teach college students as Cabrini’s newest addition to the communication department.  This is Brian’s first semester as an adjunct professor for Cabrini’s advertising course.

Wiggins attended Shawnee High School, in Medford, N.J., and he was on both the cross-county and the swimming teams. He attended LaSalle University and obtained his undergraduate degree in communications and English. He also received a master of business administration (MBA) in management from Strayer University.

Wiggins first heard about the teaching position at Cabrini from his colleague Kim Richmond. Soon after, he visited the college and meant with Dr. Jerry Zurek,

“I thought the campus was beautiful and as a small campus it reminded me of LaSalle,” Wiggins said.

As a husband and fulltime director of circulations for the Philadelphia Business Journal Wiggins finds it challenging to make time in his schedule to prepare for class. However, he finds Cabrini’s faculty very helpful and every day he feels more comfortable.

“Dr. Zurek has been very encouraging. He always has a smile on his face and is very calm. He gave me advice about which textbooks to use and he has really alleviated the pressures of starting a new job,” Wiggins said.

Advertising and teaching are two of Wiggins’ biggest passions. He finds it interesting to watch advertising evolve and he loves sharing his knowledge with others.

Wiggins’ first teaching job was as a history teacher at Northeast Catholic High School. However, since coming to Cabrini he has found niche as a college professor. In fact, he described Cabrini students as enthusiastic about learning and motivated to complete their assignment.

Brian Wiggins’ students can expect his undivided attention during class and a commitment to providing them with valuable and interesting information. Wiggins is readily available to his students.

“If I can’t put a decent amount of effort into something I don’t do it,” Wiggins said.

When Wiggins is not working he enjoys spending time with his wife, Joanne, and his dog, Owen, at their in northeast Philadelphia. While at home he enjoys cooking on his grill.

Wiggins is a man with many interests.  For example, he is very interested in video editing and photography. Wiggins also publishes a blog, known as “The Edge,” in his spare time. Wiggins enjoys all aspects of the communication field.

“I wish we had a radio station that is as nice as Cabrini’s when I was at LaSalle,” Wiggins said.

Cabrini’s commitment to social justice mirrors Brian Wiggins’ values and beliefs.

“I believe it is important to give back to our community and to take the opportunity to do so whenever we can.  Social Justice is an important part of education that is often neglected at public and state schools.”

Wiggins has put his beliefs into practice by dedicating his time to Habitat for Humanity.
