After defeating the Keystone College Giants in the first half of their afternoon doubleheader at a rain-soaked Cabrini/Carroll Field, the Cabrini Cavaliers fell to a 13-3 defeat in the second leg of action.

Keystone got on the board quickly in the first inning. Junior Anthony Ferrezza led off the game with a single and proceeded to steal two bases. He proceeded to score on an error at third base by Cabrini’s Dylan Butler. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third until back to back doubles by freshman Michael Mescia and Shaun Stackhouse knotted the game up at 1.

The top of the fourth was Cabrini’s undoing, as they yielded seven runs in the inning. Starting pitcher Jake Dohar allowed 5 of those 7–only 1 of which went down as an earned run–and the other two were allowed by reliever Michael Rodriguez–one of the five pitchers to take the mound for Cabrini in this one–who gave up a two-run bomb of a home run to senior Brady Barr. That was the Bowie, Maryland native’s fourth homer of the young season. Bar finished the game 1-1 for two walks and two runs scored.

“They hit their spots so well and execute on offspeed pitches like your curveball and your change-up. They really know your weaknesses, so they give you a lot of trouble,” Dohar, the freshman, said.

The bleeding did not stop there for the Cavaliers. The Cavs gave up one run in the fifth, another four in the 6th and one more in the seventh.

Meanwhile, Keystone pitcher Tyler Wilditz pitched a gem. He allowed one run over four innings, while striking out three Cavaliers, including Dylan Butler, who leads the CSAC in home runs with five on the season. Relief pitcher Yeison Andujar gave up two runs to Cabrini in the sixth, but also tallied three strikeouts in one and a third innings pitched.

After splitting the two games on Saturday, the Cavaliers now have a 7-6 record on their inaugural season. They will face of at Eastern University on Tuesday night, and will be back home on Friday to take on Immaculata in the first of three matches between the schools over the weekend.
