With August quickly approaching, the class of 2020 is slowly but surely starting to make Cabrini their new home. With various “Beginnings” days and the recent freshman summer barbecue, this year’s incoming class has had many opportunities to come visit campus before move-in day.

The summer barbecue was an opportunity for first-year Cavaliers to come interact with their classmates with good food, fun games and residence hall tours! The day started with a warm welcome from rising senior student ambassador Samantha Murray. Then, as the parents attended a young alumni panel, students were brought to the commons for a photo scavenger hunt, games and raffle prizes.

“My favorite part of the summer barbecue was definitely the scavenger hunt,” incoming freshman Grace Adams said. “It allowed me and my classmates to work together, become familiar with the campus, and have a lot of fun.”

Next, everyone came together and ate some typical barbecue food, and a special treat from Insomnia Cookies! The day ended with residence hall tours where students got to see the dorm buildings they would be living in and some even got to see their exact room.

Transitioning from high school to college is a big adjustment, but so many of the incoming class seemed eager about their future at Cabrini. Incoming freshman Brenden Hans Wally said, “I am most excited to meet new people and start a new chapter of my life.”

The day ran well thanks to one of the assistant directors of undergraduate admissions, Andy Halstead, along with the many others who had helped him including some student ambassadors.

“My favorite thing about planning the summer barbecue is knowing it is for all enrolled students who will be part of the incoming Cabrini class,” Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions Andy Halstead said.

“I liked the way the commons was set up, with all the games and prizes and all the tables set up, it was a great atmosphere,” senior student ambassador Kyle Chevalier said.

“This is the first incoming class at Cabrini University so I think they should go in with big expectations for themselves” junior student ambassador Alyssa Massarella said. “They should get involved and take advantage of all Cabrini has to offer for them.”

This was not only an exciting day for incoming and current students, but the Cabrini staff was equally as thrilled to get to know the class of 2020 from prospective students to first-year cavaliers.

“It’s always a beautiful day and a lot of fun,” Halstead said. “The vibe is great and all the now official Cavaliers are excited to move into campus in a few months. It’s so nice to see the students you’ve been working with all year to be as stoked to be there as you are to have them!”

Cabrini offers so many opportunities for students to shine and be themselves. The summer barbecue was just a taste of some of the many experiences that the class of 2020 will have at Cabrini University.

“Take advantage of every opportunity and get out of your comfort zone,” Halstead said. “Get involved and make Cabrini a better place leaving here than when you found it!”
