So you think you can sing? If not, that’s ok.

On Monday, March 27, Cabrini hosted a Lip Sync Battle event. This event was based off the Spike Television series, “Lip Sync Battle,” hosted by LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen, created by Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.

There were a bunch of contestants that can get an opportunity to lip sync one of their favorite songs in front of a large audience. Then in the end, the judges get to pick the winner. On the original television series, the winners get a chance to win $50,000 dollars to give to a Make A Wish Foundation. When Cap board hosted the Lip sync battle, a ten dollar Starbucks gift card and chipotle gift card were on the line and it was a tough competition from beginning to end.

The competition was close but the winner of  Lip Sync Battle was freshman Justin Barnes. In this competition he sung two songs. The first one was “Holiday” by Green Day and “The Touch” by Sam Bush.

“Honestly I feel really good about winning. This is the first time I ever did a lip sync battle but did not expect myself to win but this was actually very surprising and I am very proud of it,” Barnes said.

Justin was both the first and last person to sing, or not sing, in the event. Not only did he just lip sync the song but he impersonated each artist like he was at a live concert and that is what the judges want to see in the competition. They are looking for someone to think outside of the box.

As the night of the Lip Sync Battle continued, we saw a familiar face that has performed, his name is Herman Harrington.  Herman was last years Lip Sync Battle competition winner as he sung the song “Straight outta Compton” by N.W.A. Even though he did not win this year, he still had a great time performing. “I think  that the lip sync battle was great. I was nervous but I prevailed and continued with it and had a fun time. The song that I sang was “shake it off” by Taylor Swift,” Harrington said.

I had an opportunity to try out the Lip Sync Battle myself. The song that I sung was A thousand miles by Vanessa Carlton. I had no idea what I was in for but I just wanted to have fun and that was the most important part of it. I was nervous at first but I knew it would be worth the laughs. I think that this was a very intelligent idea for Cap Board to make their own spin off of the Tv show. it is a very popular show and it gives people a chance to see what it is like to be on a show. I also think that this was a very fun event for people. It was a fun and relaxing environment . Everyone had an opportunity to go out there and show off their skill no matter if it was just for the competition or just to go out there and have fun and entertain. It’s a wonderful experience and I really hope that Cap board has an opportunity to do it again next year. This time I will win be the Lip sync champion.

Now that the competition is over, The winner competition Justin Barnes now has a opportunity to take on other members on another lip sync battle competition but this time it will be battling it out for 100 dollars.
