The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team suffered their third loss of the season on Saturday, March 25, falling in a tough match to the number 11 ranked team in division III, SUNY Cortland.

The Cavaliers looked to continue their winning ways after two straight victories this past week, but fell short losing 18-13. The loss follows victories against Ursinus College and conference opponent Rosemont.

The Cortland Dragons cracked the game wide open early on, jumping out to a six goal lead after the first quarter.

The Dragons held a 9-4 lead going into halftime after a buzzer-beater goal by Nate Beresovoy to end the half.

Cortland opened up the second half with a few more goals and the score found itself at 12-5 after a goal from sophomore Bill Morgan.

The Cavaliers then opened the floodgates and rattled off five unanswered goals climbing all the way back to a 12-10 scoreline.

Freshman Jake Klein had two goals during the run, and Morgan added another with a man-up score.

But the energy of the Cavaliers was drained through the offensive run, and they were never able to get over the hump.

The deficit stayed at two for a few minutes until the Dragons put the nail in the coffin and scored five more goals to close the game out.

The final scoreline read 18-13. The Cortland effort was lead by junior attackman Thomas McNaney and a standout performance from sophomore goalie Joe Scalise.

Scalise posted 12 saves including a few shots from right on the crease, making it nearly impossible for the Cavs to score.

Although the Cavaliers lost, a bright spot came from the attacking 10.
Klein posted an impressive seven assists, good enough to break the previous school record for a single game.
