Cabrini University will host an anti-human trafficking movie event on Wednesday, March 13, in Grace Hall. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will be over once the movie is finished. The event is hosted by Cabrini’s ECG 200 anti-human trafficking class.

What is the Movie?

Human Trafficking is a problem especially here in Pennslyvania (Photo taken from Pixabay).

The movie is called “From Liberty to Captivity” and focuses on the human trafficking problems in Pennsylvania. The movie searches for the answer to the question of how Pennsylvania went from a place that represented freedom, to becoming a state where human trafficking and slavery are flourishing.

“The reason why we are having the movie night is to bring awareness not only to the campus community,” Cindy Ross, ECG 200 human trafficking instructor, said. “We also want to bring awareness to our partnerships and the Radnor community.”

Spreading the awareness of human trafficking is a goal that Ross and her class want to achieve because it is a local problem in the state of Pennsylvania.

What should people expect on movie night?

“So we are really excited that we are able to do this and they are actually going to have it like a movie premiere,” Ross said. “They are bringing out the red carpet and the little golden things that keep people away and it is a great opportunity to let the campus and Radnor community be a part of this event.”

Expect red carpets, fun and togetherness at the movie premiere.

Why was the movie chosen?

“This movie is special because it focuses on Pennsylvania,” Karol Brewer, human trafficking officer for the Cabrini missionary sisters, said. “The woman who produced the movie,  she realized that there was human trafficking in our state and took it to another level.”

Karol Brewer works with Ross’ ECG 200 human trafficking class. She works with the missionary sisters with Cabrini Closet, an organization at Cabrini that gets recent up to date clothing to human trafficking victims that need clothes and resources. Besides Cabrini, other partnerships Brewer works with are Homeland Security, drop-in centers and more.

Brewer and Ross worked together to decide on a movie that would get their audience to understand what they were teaching and get public awareness about human trafficking.

For Cabrini students that are looking for an ECG 200 class, the class is called “Voices for the Voiceless” and it is about anti-human trafficking. This is Ross and Brewer’s third year teaching the course.
