Valentine’s Day is that one day set aside for showing someone how much you love them. But should that not be every day? Why does a holiday have to dictate when you buy your girl flowers and take her out to a fancy dinner?

Valentine’s Day should be every day! If you are lucky enough to find that special someone, you should find little ways to remind them each day of how much you love and appreciate them. Girls do not need grand gestures to know you care. Simply giving us food and playing with our hair is enough to know you care.

Just being together and taking time away from your busy lives to talk on the phone, or seeing each other is all that matters. Staying in with a movie and pizza can mean so much more than getting dressed up and going out. Trust me, most girls would rather not put in the effort of having to dress up.

My last relationship was based off of nights in together and when I think back I had more fun lounging in sweatpants on the couch than in a dress and heels at some dinner. It was who we were as a couple. It was part of our dynamic. We did not need to go anywhere to make the night memorable because we were spending time with each other and that was enough.

I am not saying you and your significant other should never get dressed up and go out because you should. I am saying it does not have to be the only thing. Special occasions demand to be celebrated.

Good morning and goodnight texts, writing cute little notes, surprising the other person with their favorite candy or food or having their coffee order memorized are just a few things both people in the relationship can do to show the other how much they care. These things also do not take a lot of time or effort either.

If your significant other gets a haircut then compliment them on it. It shows that you notice them. If you see something that makes you think of them send them a picture of it or tell them about it later. Let them know they are on your mind because I am sure you are on their’s.

Showing someone how much you love them should be effortless. Natural. If you have to think about how to show your affection then you may be in the wrong relationship.
