Men’s Soccer
After falling short of the CSAC title last year, the men’s soccer team is back under new leadership. First-year head coach Rob Dallas takes over after long-time head coach Glen Jaskelewicz stepped down.
Despite losing seniors Eric Collins and Jim Mattock, the Cavaliers need players to step up this season.
Juniors Brett Lockbaum and Ryan Cerrato as well as sophomores Christian Martin and George Lambritsios each enter the season with high expectations after posting strong seasons last year.
Additionally, junior goalkeeper Eric Nowicki returns as well, providing a reliable stopper in net for the Cavaliers.
The team opened the season 0-2 after losing two one-goal games in the Union College Classic tournament in Schenectady, N.Y. to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Union College on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.
They open their schedule at home Wednesday, Sept. 5, with a match against No. 24 Rutgers-Camden at 6:30 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Women’s Soccer
The defending CSAC Champions that upset Marywood University in the title game last season return with plenty of talent.
Gone are recent graduates Kara Hinkelmon and Sammy Thompson. But you don’t have to look far to find how 11th-year head coach Ken Prothero filled the void.
Thompson’s sister, Bree, enters her junior season. Hinkelmon’s sister, Kerri, joins the Lady Cavs this season wearing Kara’s familiar No. 12.
Senior leadership is plentiful among this group. Seniors Dana Drake, Alex Tralie, Morgan Hudson and Maddy Edwards lead the Lady Cavs in their quest to defend the CSAC title.
Even though their season opened on a sour note with an overtime loss to Susquehanna University last Friday, the Lady Cavs are just getting started. Their second game of the season is Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Field Hockey
The women’s field hockey team dominated their conference during the regular season in 2011 but fell short of the CSAC title. With Lauren Alessi, Maura Gordon and Stephanie Campanaro departing as graduates, the team has seniors Lindsey Atzert, Taylor McGarvey and Katie Savage leading the way.
This is primarily a young team, with juniors Erin McLaughlin, Stephanie Toomey and Genevieve Paulin as well as sophomores Karlie Gruccio and Rachel Antuzzi seeing sizable amounts of playing time last season. They’ll be the players to watch as the Lady Cavs hit the field this season.
The Lady Cavs opened the season with two low-scoring losses in the Drew University tournament to Swarthmore College and Drew University on Sept. 1 and 2. They continue the early portion of their schedule on the road against Rowan University on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and against Gettysburg College on Saturday, Sept. 8. Their home opener is Wednesday, Sept. 12 against Delaware Valley College at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Volleyball
The other fall CSAC-championship team of 2011 returns in 2012 with a similar lineup. This already young team, primarily made of sophomores and juniors last season, is back with another year under their belts.
After winning three straight CSAC titles under head coach Eric Schaefer, this team is in pursuit of a fourth straight championship. Seniors Meg Ryan and Danielle Carrozza, two of the team’s shining stars a year ago, lead the Lady Cavs. Also returning are juniors Sophia Sokolovich, Alaina Clark, Kristy Riley and Michele Fitz.
After three straight CSAC crowns and an undefeated season against CSAC opponents a year ago, this team knows how to win. With this formula, they seemed destined to rise straight to the top.
After being ranked No. 1 in the CSAC preseason poll, the Lady Cavs opened their season with two days of play in a tournament at Goucher College. After suffering two defeats on day one, they rebounded to sweep two matches on day two. Their season continues on Wednesday, Sept. 5 with a match at Moravian College before another weekend tournament takes place at Ithaca College. The Lady Cavs’ home opener is Thursday, Sept. 13 against Widener University at 7 p.m at the Nerney Field House.
Women’s Tennis
A tough 5-3 loss in the CSAC Final to Gwynedd-Mercy College ended a nearly perfect season for the Lady Cavs. In 2011, they posted a 13-3 record, including 8-2 against CSAC opponents.
Gone are graduates Alexis DiCamillo and Michelle Lettmann. Returning to the team this season are juniors Katie Kennedy and Adriana Scotto as well as sophomore Samantha Trumbo.
Also joining the fray are three freshman members ready for their first action with the Lady Cavs on the court.
With several new faces and a fresh overhaul of the Dixon Courts, the Lady Cavs are after the CSAC title that eluded them last season.
