Award season 2011 includes strong nominees, surprise snubs

Now that both the People’s Choice and Critics’ Choice Awards are behind us, award season is in full swing and some nominees have a chance of top honors at multiple ceremonies.  According to E! Online, Colin Firth and Natalie Portman won Critics’ Choice best actor and actress for their respective roles in “The King’s Speech” and “Black Swan.”  The best movie award went to “The Social Network,” hinting at what it could do throughout the rest of the award season.  The special effects-filled “Inception,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was also nominated for best picture awards at both the Critics’ Choice and Golden Globes, according to VH1 and Golden Globes website.  DiCaprio is noted as a three-time Oscar nominee over the years on IMDB, but this doesn’t look to be his year.  E! Online lists him as one of the surprise award snubs for his work in “Shutter Island” as well as “Inception.”  As for the Oscars, an article on Moviefone provides a few predictions on this year’s nominees.

Swift, Gyllenhaal romance makes waves

A romance between songbird Taylor Swift and actor Jake Gyllenhaal has been sweeping entertainment magazine covers recently.  Photos showed them laughing and smiling together as an adorable celebrity couple, heading for a steady relationship in 2011.  However, according to People Magazine, Swift and Gyllenhaal are slowing things down to some degree for now.  We’ll see where the coming months take these talented stars in terms of a relationship and wish them the best.

Stefani signs as a face for L’Oreal

You have probably seen Taylor Swift in recent commercials for Cover Girl, and Gwen Stefani has a similar deal for cosmetics competitor L’Oreal Paris according to E! Online.  As a powerhouse pop star, Stefani has had many different looks since her time with No Doubt to the present.  So it comes as no surprise to see recognition through a major cosmetics brand offering her this opportunity to represent them.  Stars with many different and original looks can easily be seen as fashion and beauty icons by those in relevant industries.

Richie a new mom, and role model for troubled celebs

Nicole Richie was once one of Hollywood’s wild party girls and according to People Magazine, she has tamed down in recent times as a new mother.  With her now quiet lifestyle, maybe other celebs struggling with problems of various kinds will reach for their own positive changes.  We know all too well the rehab and jail times that many celebrities go through, but we’ll see who else comes out on top against their struggles.
