Faith comes in many different forms.
Some pray every single morning, day and night. Some believe that their higher power is guiding them through a path that will lead them to bigger and better things. Others think that the stars may have not been aligned correctly during their bad day at the office or during that math exam that they miserably failed.
According to Pew Research, as of Friday, May 12, 22.8 percent of United States adults state that their religion is “nothing in particular,” which is up from 16.1 percent in 2007.
You can be a daily mass-goer and praise your higher power this way, or meditate on your back porch and find your connection, whenever you see fit. Whatever it is that keeps you going, whether it is religion or just hoping for the best, you should not lose that sense of belief during college. We all want something to believe in that is bigger than ourselves.
According to The Huffington Post, more than half of the members of the Millennial Generation who categorize themselves as nonreligious have abandoned their childhood faith. When college freshmen pack up their cars with their belongings and kiss their parents goodbye to start the next chapter of their lives, they should not be saying goodbye to their faith and purpose, as well.
Cabrini College has many opportunities for students to get involved in activities that will strengthen their faith and sense of purpose, such as service trips through the Wolfington Center. A person could believe in a supreme being, practice the customs of an organized church or be focusing on putting others before themselves. Faith has no limits. These spiritual connections and beliefs make individuals feel a sense of passion and connection. We are working feverishly every single day towards obtaining a college diploma. This passion is what keeps us going when our majors get tough or when the third cup of coffee just doesn’t seem to help.
We are college students. We need all of the faith and positive outlooks that we can get, so do not lose it. At the end of the day, things have a funny way of working out, but until then, have faith.
