It’s that time of year again.

Fall.

Leaves are changing colors, girls on campus are enjoying their pumpkin coffees and of course Homecoming weekend.

This year spirit week held Oct. 13 through Oct. 16.

It was filled with a lot of events to kick start homecoming weekend.

The cavalier carnival and bonfire were held on Oct. 15th behind Grace Hall near  the Dixon center.

Freshman biology and pre-med major, Danielle Ayre, attended the bonfire and really thought it added something personal to her home away from home experience.

“I think homecoming weekend is off to a good start,” Ayre said.  “The bonfire was my favorite part of tonight because my family does bonfires all the time in my backyard. It just reminds me of home.”

Although she enjoyed the bonfire, Ayre was looking forward to Saturday’s events including a bouncy house and interactive games.

The Radnor township fire department lit the large stack of wood on fire and instantly heat was felt.

Shortly after, the Cavalier Dance Company gave a great performance for the students there.

Lisa Podolsky, assistant director for leadership and development, was in charge of putting on the bonfire that night.

“The bonfire has been a tradition for a couple years now,” Podolsky said. “It’s just something that students have always said they enjoy in the past and we wanted to continue that tradition.”

Creating an event of this size is not easy. Podolsky had to think ahead before anything could be set into motion.

“We need to have a permit for the bonfire. We work with Radnor on that,” Podolsky said. “Along with advertising, we had to get food and games together as well as the mascot to come out. It took a lot of contacting a lot of different people.”

When asked if she thought everything went well that night, Podolsky seemed pleased.

“It was a pretty great turn out and we’re really happy that students came out,” Podolsky said.

Students enjoyed popcorn, warm apple cider, cotton candy and little s’mores brownies provided by the even. With fun snacks and activities, the bonfire kept the party on and the fire roaring.
