As the spring semester continues on, next year’s housing applications are beginning to slowly sneak up. With the new residence hall being built students all over campus have been wondering just what is in store with housing next year.

Options by Class

Rising seniors will have the option of the Cabrini Apartment Complex (CAC) with The Senior Living Experience, West Residence Hall, McManus House, Casey House and Infante House.

Rising juniors and sophomores will have the option of West Residence Hall, the new building South Residence Hall, Dixon House, Casey House, McManus House and Infante House. They will be the only classes able to live in South Residence Hall.

The Valley Forge Military College (VFMC) apartments, Maguire and Sullivan Houses are no longer an option for students.

The Senior Living Experience

The Senior Living Experience is something new being implemented this year. This experience is exclusively for seniors in the Cabrini Apartment Complex.  There are five person apartments with a single and two double rooms, six person apartments with three double rooms and four person apartments with two double rooms.

“Our goals are to allow seniors to have secure housing for the year, to allow seniors to live with other seniors, to allow Seniors to participate in programming that is focused on Senior transitions, and to give seniors the opportunity to connect with campus resources such as: job preparation, financial management and Cabrini alumni networking,” Meghan Junor, assistant director of Residence Life, said.

Applications for this experience have already closed.

West Residence Hall

West Residence Hall will be available to rising seniors, juniors and sophomores. It houses approximately 138 students. There are two types of suites: four person and six person.

Six person suites consist of two single and two double rooms. There are a total of seven of these types of rooms. They share a bath within the suite.

Four person suites have two options. The first is made up or two single rooms and one double room. There are only one of these in West Residence Hall. The other option for a four person suite is two double rooms. There are 18 of these. Like six person rooms, four person rooms all share a bath within the suite.

South Residence Hall

South Residence Hall is the new building on campus. It is only available for rising juniors and sophomores. This hall will be made up of two double rooms. There are 44 of these types of rooms with a shared bath within the suite.

The Houses

Some of the biggest changes for next year involve the 6 remaining houses on campus. The houses available for selection next year are Dixon, Infante, McManus and Casey Houses.

Dixon House is available to rising juniors and sophomores. It consists of two person and three person rooms. There are a total of 24 two person rooms in Dixon. Male rooms are on the first floor and female rooms are on the second. There are only two three person rooms available for selection. One is for males and one is for females.

McManus House is also available for rising juniors and sophomores. These rooms will stay as the doubles they are now. Casey and Infante Houses will be converted to singles. This is due to the demand of singles from students. Casey and Infante can be selected by rising seniors, juniors and sophomores.

Maguire and Sullivan Houses will not be available for selection next year. These houses are going offline for the potential use as office space.

How to Apply for Housing

On Monday, March 25 the housing application was available through the MyHousing portal on Cabrini One. Students are to fill out the Returning Student Application through their portal. Students must also register for classes at their select time the week of April 1st.

Students must then determine where they want to live and with whom. This can be a suite, a double or a single.

Once all of this is complete students can begin to form roommate groups. Roommates should be selected based on the type of room you and your roommates would like to select. Students can search and accept roommate requests on the MyHousing portal. Students will only be able to select others who have also completed the application.

To create a fully matched group of 3, 4 or 6, every member needs to request or be requested by the others. For example, a group of four students would like to room together. Student one sends all three group members a roommate request. Student two accepts one’s request and sends requests to the other two. Student three accepts one and two’s requests before sending a request to the last roommate. Finally student four accepts the invitations from one, two and three.

On April 29th students will receive random lottery numbers and selection times. These will be based on class. Rising seniors will select first followed by rising juniors then rising sophomores. Students may choose roommates in the class above and below them. Class status is determined by the number of credits you have.

Room selection will occur on April 30, May 1 and 2. Each day selection will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. The first lottery number and selection time will start at 7 a.m. There will be one minute in-between those who select.

On April 30, fully matched groups will pick their rooms. This day is to fill rooms to occupancy. On May 1, groups of two can select a room. If a suite was not selected on day 1, then a pair of two people could select half the suite and fill one of the double rooms inside. On the final day, May 2, individuals will select room. They will be able to view what rooms are open and select any space left. Students who do not pick a room during this day will be placed by Residence Life after.

Freshmen Living

One of the biggest changes Residence Life has planned to make involves the freshmen living spaces: East, Xavier and Woodcrest Residence Halls. All triples in these buildings will be converted to double rooms or lounges. Some of these freshmen residence halls previously housed upperclassmen. They will now house only freshmen. Freshmen LLC’s were predominately in one or two buildings. These will now be spread out through all three residence halls.

Incoming freshmen will be able to apply for housing starting right now. As soon as an accepted student puts in their deposit they will be given an enrollment checklist.
