How the conference is different for Cabrini sports

After the sports seasons last year, Cabrini University changed from CSAC to AEC. AEC stands for Atlantic East Conference. The fall sports season just ended with an 0-4 championship. Volleyball lost to Marymount University. Men’s soccer lost to Neumann University. Women soccer lost to Immaculata University. Field hockey lost to Neumann University.

Last year, Cabrini’s fall sports went 3-3 in the championship games so the question most people ask regarding the way Cabrini teams played this year is, “what happened?”

With changing conferences, Cabrini now play different teams as well as teams from the previous conference. It is probably hard for the teams to play these new teams because Cabrini do not know how they play. Cabrini are so used to playing the same teams every year that Cabrini knows their game play.

“CSAC conference is not as high level of play as AEC. It is more competitive and will overall make Cabrini teams better,” sophomore business major Lauren Coscia said.

Coscia is a part of the volleyball team and played in the championship last year. She then went to play for the basketball team and was a part of that team winning the championship game. After relaxing for summer, she went back to playing volleyball for Cabrini.

“They have different teams in both conferences and that last years conference was easier teams for us to beat but this year it is harder opponents and different teams. I think overall we just did not play hard enough and kind of gave up easily,” sophomore education major Kathleen Emche said.

Emche is a part of the field hockey team and was on the team last year when they won the championship. After field hockey season is over, she will also be playing on the lacrosse team. Sadly last year, she was out with a leg injury for most of the field hockey season but still supported.

The teams that are now a part of the Atlantic East Conference is Cabrini University, Gwynedd Mercy University, Immaculata University, Marymount University, Marywood University, Neumann University and Wesley College.

The winter and spring sports are already practicing and getting ready for their seasons to play. Cabrini athletics have multiple teams that want to win conference champs again. Cabrini has several defending champs that do not wanna give it up. We will see in the near future.

Every team still has to build and with a lot of practice and training, Cabrini athletics will hopefully win and AEC championship game.
