“I’m nowhere near ready to be a senior,” Deanna Schmidt, junior English major and psychology minor, said. “It feels as though I was a freshman just last week that’s how fast time has flown by.”

As the end of the school year begins to roll around, current juniors are beginning to realize senior year is right around the corner for them. Many are feeling that they are not ready for their last year in college.

“I am so not ready to be a senior,” Lexi Cavaliere, middle level education major with an English minor, said. “Being a senior means facing the reality of graduation and I just am not ready to think about it.”

Many students have big plans for their senior year and are not planning on slacking off. As an education major, Cavaliere is getting ready to become a full-time student teacher for her last semester at Cabrini.

Sarah Grant, pre-med major and chemistry and Spanish minor, also has a lot to look forward to for her senior year but is prepared to work hard and is nervous for what is to come.

“I would love to say that senior year would fit the stereotype and be really easy but I doubt that’ll happen,” she said. “There’s just so much to get done before the end and I’m determined not to let all the effort I’ve put in thus far be for nothing so I can’t slip up.”

During her senior year, Grant will officially start taking courses towards obtaining a Masters degree in biological sciences which is now offered at Cabrini.

“I’m excited about some of my classes and officially starting the biology masters program because I’m a super nerd,” Grant said.

Grant will be staying one year past her senior year at Cabrini to complete the master’s program and then plans on attending medical school past that.

“It’s scary to think about, trying to prepare for the MCAT, looking at medical schools and trying to form a real plan for the future,”  Grant said. “But overall, the good weighs out the bad and I’m pretty pumped about senior year.”

As for Schmidt, she has chosen to take the opportunity to travel abroad for part of her senior year.

“I’m excited for my senior year because I will be studying abroad in London during the fall semester,” Schmidt said. “When I get back in the spring, I’m excited to perform with the dance team at the basketball games and to take some fun English elective courses that I’ve been dying to take.”

Aside from all the school work and responsibility that comes with senior year, most juniors have come to realize next year is also their last year to spend with the friends they have made at Cabrini.

“I’m excited to make the most of the time I have left with all the amazing people I’ve met here,” Grant said. “I know there’s a good chance I won’t see a lot of these people often or even at all after we graduate so I want to squeeze in as much time with them as I can.”

“I will be sad knowing that it [senior year] will be a year of lasts,” Schmidt said. “This is the last time I’ll get to take classes with my friends and perform at sporting events and participate in everything that Cabrini has to offer. It’s bittersweet; as much as I’ll miss Cabrini, I’m also looking forward to life after I graduate.”
