Living in the shadows of my famous cousin

Many kids have the goal to grow up rich and famous but the problem is most don’t know what it is really like to be

famous.

My father is one of six children, each having kids of their own. My dad’s side of the family is huge and spreads across the United States, from Florida to California.

Having a huge family means having a wide variety of people with different stories and backgrounds. One of my 20 cousins happens to be a very well known actress.

My cousin Brittany Snow has been in movies like “Hairspray,” “Pitch Perfect” and “John Tucker Must Die.” Growing up, I would watch her on TV and occasionally see her at family outings. I never understood the pressure and responsibilities she has as an actress.

One day about three years ago, my family and I went to New York City to meet my cousin for dinner, as she was filming a movie there. During dinner we had multiple random people coming to our table asking for pictures and autographs.

After dinner we thought it would be a fun idea to walk around Time Square. We were wrong! We were surrounded by tons of people that followed us everywhere we went.

My cousin leaned over to me and said, “They don’t care. Even when I am with family they follow me. It is never ending.”

That moment stuck with me for a long time. We hear on the news all the time about how celebrities are fighting with paparazzi but after reading this, can you blame them?

We are all humans and it is unfortunate that in society fame changes the way we look at people.

My cousin has introduced me to multiple actors such as Ashley Tisdale, Zac Efron and Amanda Bynes and they all say the same.

I asked my cousin “what made you want to have this life that you have?” She responded with, “if you have a passion for something give it your all and don’t give up, your dreams will turn into reality before you know it.”

This gave me inspiration that has helped me pursue and succeed in dreams I never thought would be possible.

Success comes when you surround yourself with people who both support you and want the same things in life. My aunt worked non stop to make sure her daughter succeeded in following her dreams.

If it wasn’t for my aunt none of this would have been possible. My aunt is now a very successful manager for kid actors who dream of making it big.

My family has used her story to inspire all of us to pursue our dreams. My dad tells me all the time, “We sit in the shadows waiting to be seen by others but, it’s your job to get yourself out there for the world to see.”

My cousin lives an extremely busy life and I don’t get to see her as often as my other family but we as a family try keep in contact as much as possible.

I hide in the shadows as my cousin is known worldwide living a luxurious life. The key things that I have learned looking up to my cousin is family always comes first no matter what and to pursue any dream you have a passion for.
