Making their debut for the fall season, the men’s tennis team struggled to find their footing in a loss to Penn State Abington. The team fell 9-0 in their match at Abington Wednesday, Sept. 25.
“We looked at the match as a building block for the spring season,” said sophomore Michael Halbherr about the team’s loss in their first fall appearance.
During doubles play, both teams, consisting of sophomores Colin Kilroy and Mike Halbherr, and junior Peter Seid and senior Don Irons, battled only to go down 8-0 each.
“I took the match as an opportunity to gain match experience,” the sophomore said, looking optimistically further into the season.
The Cavaliers did not find more success as they moved to singles play. Abington took all six matches for the win on their home court.
Halbherr also added that the absence of some of their veteran players, due to soccer season, is affecting their performance as a team.
A rocky start, but the Cavs are in good spirits looking to go nowhere but up as they moved into their fall schedule. The team has three more matches to find their game before their first CSAC contest where they will face Marywood University.
“We are going to continue building for spring, [looking] for doubles to have more success as we try to build chemistry,” Halbherr said.
The Blue and White will take the court again next Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Penn State Berks. The first match is scheduled to begin a 1 p.m.
