The Public Safety department at Cabrini patrols the campus 24 hours a day, enforces rules and has made changes to assure that the campus is safe for students, faculty and staff.

Over the past few years there have been changes made to make the campus more secure. One of the aspects of the Public Safety system that was altered to create more safety was increasing the number of Public Safety officers that work at Cabrini.

Currently, there are 30 full and part-time Public Safety officers, a Public Safety director, a lieutenant and two sergeants who maintain the safety on campus. The number of officers on duty does vary, depending on the time of day or campus event.

Charles Schaffner, director of Public Safety, welcomes all the new and returning students to what he expects to be a great year. Schaffner said, "Cabrini's campus is safe, but we do need to cooperation of students. Students need to report any problems as soon as they occur."

To help insure safety every residence hall is equipped with card access systems that allow only the residents of that building to enter. To help students feel safe while walking around campus, there are emergency phones installed at various locations on campus and the lighting on campus has been improved. The improved lighting is to help students feel more secure while walking around campus at night.

Davena Stevenson, a junior psychology major, said "I think that Public Safety does a good job. I feel safe walking around at night as long as I am with a group of people, but I would never walk around by myself."
