Cabrini womens soccer opened up their 2016-2017 season homestand against their long time rival Eastern University. The girls looked to get their first win of the season after falling to Bryn Mawr last week but fell 3-0 to the Eagles.

The Cavs found themselves down early as Eastern scored in the 11th minute of play. In the second half of play Cabrini looked to tie things but it was all Eastern as they scored 2 minutes into the half to give them the 2-0 advantage. In the final 10 minutes of play Eastern didnt stop their as they put in another to give them the 3-0 lead. The horn sounded and the Eagles were this years battle of eagle road champions.

Cabrini was out shot 18-7 as Junior, Taylor Tralie lead the Cavs with 3 shots. Junior goaltender, Gabby LeGrende stopped 7 of the 10 shots she faced.

Even though, the game had gotten out of reach for the Cavs, everyone on the team continued to play hard until the final horn. Throughout the entire game, LeGrendre showed her leadership and competitors positive mindset to bring confidence to the team, even when they were losing.

Well I just wanted to keep the team’s confidence up and keep my own confidence up. Every goal made is just a learning opportunity so I just want to keep my head up and put them behind me and just keep playing,” LeGrende said.

Throughout the game, the women’s soccer team had a lot of ups and downs but they fought hard to the final buzzer.

We definitely stepped it up from our last game. It was a tough loss but and we have a lot to work on but we didn’t really play that bad…we did play a little bit faster than we did before. We didn’t win the ball as much as we should of like off of our kicks coming out the back,” Senior captain, Jess Breuing said.

Even with this lost, Breuing and the rest of the team know that every game they play will be a learning experience.

Going into the season, the team has a lot of new faces compared to last year. Head Coach Ken Prothero feels that this is just a learning process and is impressive with how the team is going to get better everyday.

This is only our second match and we have eleven returners and seventeen new faces so the new goal for this year is to mesh together as a team and to build some chemistry on and off the field,” Prothero said.

Protherno is looking to continue the improving process when Cabrini takes on The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. on Saturday at 1pm.
