The lifestyle of living on campus

Since I’ve moved on campus I’ve learned different things about myself. I also feel like I’ve matured in a way. When I was at home, I had a little bit of freedom; meaning that when I would leave the house I would at least have to tell my parents where I am going before leaving.

At home, I had my own bathroom and room I could clean up on my own time. When I am at home, I’m able to cook all kinds of foods at any time of the day or night. On late nights, if I don’t feel like cooking I am able to walk up to Wawa and grab food or order out.

Now living on campus there has been a shift of things I had to adapt to. Being on campus and living with two other girls in a room, I have to be considerate of them so when they are sleeping I can not turn on the big light as I have to put on my little lamp on in the morning to get ready.

The walls are so thin people next door can hear every noise you make, so I can not blast my music as loud as I would if I were at home. I have to share the bathroom with other females and because of that sometimes there is a line to get into the bathroom.

At Cabrini, there is a schedule for food in the cafeteria, which is called “Cav’s Corner.” This means that from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. there is breakfast. Dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and a late night option, called “Cav’s Late Night,” which is open from 8 p.m. to midnight.

There are not that many stores that deliver around 11 p.m. and the Wawa is no walking distance.

When I first moved on campus I had to adjust to the room temperature some nights as it was really cold and I would have to bundle up with multiple clothes and covers because I can not control the heat; only the school can.

As I’ve mentioned before I live with two other females, so I had to adjust to sharing closets and making room for roommates. Living on campus has been a great experience for me; I learn something new about myself every day.

I learned that everything does not revolve around me and I do not have to be selfish all the time. I’ve learned to take consideration to other people’s feelings and being on campus is not about having your privacy.

You get to see how life is as an adult and if I were to move into a house by myself. I would have to cook for myself, clean up after myself and be considerate of the people near me. I do enjoy having my own privacy, not having my parents behind my back making me wash dishes or clean all around the house.

I can stay up late without having to hear my parents yell, “don’t you have school tomorrow.” A few negatives I stumbled over staying on campus was that females do not clean up after themselves.

For example, in the ladies room, some females would leave balls of hair or pour their dishes in the sink with food inside. That is where most of us brush our teeth. I find it a bit disturbing when people pour their food in the sink and do not clean up after themselves. Another negative I came across was having to hear the vacuums when the cleaning people came by in the morning. The sound of the vacuum wakes you up, especially because when they are vacuuming they hit your door by accident.

Living on campus can have its pros and cons but overall it is a very good experience. You can learn something new about yourself every day and make great long lasting friendships. Staying on campus also allows you to be closer to resources such as the writing center and math resource center. Those buildings close at a certain time so staying on campus allows you to be closer.
