Instagram is a photo sharing app and social networking platform that was acquired by Facebook in 2012. On

Instagram you can upload pictures and videos you also have followers and followings. Followers on Instagram are accounts that follow your page they are able to see, like, and comment. Following is you following accounts with similar interest you can also like and comment on their post.

On Instagram they show you how many likes you receive on a picture which should not be option. Likes can affect the way someone views themselves, for example a female could get 1000 likes just from a cute selfie meanwhile another female could do her hair, nails and makeup to achieve an awesome selfie and get 50 likes.

That can make a female question herself whether she is ugly or not, or make her feel like she is not enough. Not only does it make people feel low but it can lead to depression and anxiety.

Depression can come from self doubting, anxiety would come from worrying every second you upload a picture you constantly check your phone for likes. People will see families and friends going on vacation and taking trips they will feel as though they are doing something wrong with their life because they are not doing the same.

People who sit on social media all day are the most distressed. If you are constantly on Instagram seeing females with perfect bodies, clear skin and cool filters you will begin to ask yourself question if you are cute or are you ugly.

If likes were not shown, people would not compare themselves and lifestyle to others. People would not feel like they are less because they do not get enough likes. They would take their pictures without having to question if they look okay or whether their bumps is showing in their picture.

People can agree with the fact that likes do not define who they are. When you constantly get 100 likes on a post you start to get used to getting that same amount of likes until one day you post a picture and it not 100 likes. Instead it’s 50 likes and you do not feel beautiful. Meanwhile there are some people out their that seek validation from the internet. When they are not getting told they are pretty or nice outfit they feel less of themselves because they live off of what people have to say.

I have a close friend who has a lot of following on Instagram when we go out she not even focused on being with her friends. She is more so focused on taking pictures to upload on Instagram. Every time she checks her phone to see how many like she received.

When she get likes under 100 she is disappointed and she deletes the picture. Later on that day, she will try to repost the same picture to see if she will receive more likes than she did the first time. When she realizes that her picture do not get more likes than the first time she begins to question herself.

People seek validation from likes which is not good, why do people feel like other people opinions matter? I personally believe Instagram has boost many females and males confidence due to likes. Than there are females and males who feel less of themselves because they do not receive many likes.
