“We need to talk,” The dreaded text that I’m sure we’ve all received. It is extremely unfortunate that since texting came about, people have been getting dumped through text messaging. After that, it was through Myspace messaging, Facebook and even Twitter.

Not only are relationships ending on social media, but they are also beginning on social media. Since people are now about to meet other from around the world it is pretty easy to get to know someone. If they are actually who they say they are. So be careful getting to know someone online, being catfished is easier than you think.

Now back to this dreaded text. Everyone has received it and everyone all knows that feeling in the pit of the stomach when one gets the text. It honestly sucks to get dumped over a text but is it better than getting dumped in person?

Freshman business major Kassie Ockford has some insight on this question.

“I’ve been dumped over text when I was in middle school and in person in high school. I had more respect for the guy that dumped me in person,” Ockford said. “We were going to stay friends, whereas the guy that dumped me over text, we still aren’t friends.”

There is probably a lot of different reasons why people dump others over text. Maybe they are too scared to do it in person, or they do not care that much or maybe they think it will just be easier that way.

Regardless, if someone gets dumped over text, it is not the end of the world. Yes, it will probably be extremely awkward when one sees them next but as time goes on it will become relevant that it was for the best.

Every break up is a stepping stone to eventually get to the person we are supposed to end up with. “I can not even imagine being with the person that broke up with me over text,” senior Christine Ingargiola said.

Weather it is in person or over text a break up can suck. But it happens, we move on and continue to live a life we want. Time heals all wounds, it just takes time and patience.

“It was so long ago and first I was really upset when it happened, but I got over it and moved it. That was what I was exactly supposed to do,” Ingargiola said.
