Updates on Cabrini’s construction situation and plans for the future

Cabrini is focused primarily on their two new renovations, namely the new parking lot and residence hall. Both buildings began construction in June of 2018.

While those are the two biggest changes on campus these are not the only things being done on campus within the year.

At a recent dinner event held in the mansion, Cabrini President Donald Taylor spoke about the future of the campus. The parking garage was the first building to be commented on.

“The parking lot will be done before commencement,” Taylor said. “They’re only working on the elevator. Everything else is done.”

Some students are indifferent to the new building. Zach Debow, junior international business major, said. “I don’t drive so I don’t really care, but it kind of feels like a waste of money.”

Natalie Wharton, junior psychology major, felt similarly about the parking garage.

“It kind of gets in my way,” Wharton said. “It also doesn’t help us unless they add parking for non-commuters.”

Taylor also said that the new residence hall would likely be completed by early July. The school plans on building all of the walls in the next week, as well as creating a mock-suite for the purpose of tours.

The new residence hall is set to have a wing saved for international students. It is also supposed to thematically resemble a lodge resort.

When asked about the new building and its new theme, Debow said, “This is why Cabrini owes money…just build a place to live. It doesn’t need to be themed.”

“I don’t know what to expect,” Wharton said. “I’m interested to see what it looks like. It might be really ince, but it might be really weird.”

Taylor also said that the two new buildings weren’t the only things being added to the campus. The school plans to install new wi-fi in all of the buildings by mid-summer.

The next building that is being planned is a new student-center. The building would be placed between the Widener building and Founder’s hall.

The plan is to create a three-story building to mirror Iadarola. The new student center would be equipped with new dining facilities and an updated theater.

Taylor also mentioned plans for creating a men’s volleyball team as well as implementing e-sports into campus athletics.

There is no set or expected date for any new constructions or additions.
