Winter time is rolling around which means that the end of the fall semester is near. With finals being dropped on top of projects and papers, most student’s minds are already miles away, filled with thoughts of being in the comfort of their own home being with family and friends and not having to deal with the stresses of school work.
In order to deal with the stress of school, many students make time to find an activity that gives their mind a break from studying and work. For sophomore graphic design major Lindsay Dobbins, working out is critical to stress relief.
“The end of this semester has definitely been the most stressful time I’ve had so far at Cabrini, having tons of assignments due all at once. I like to take a few hours out of my day to workout either in my room or at the Dixon Center to relieve my stress,” Dobbins said. “I started attending kickboxing classes twice a week. I can honestly say that kickboxing has helped relieve so much stress than any other workout. I still enjoy running a few miles and doing my regular abs, arms and legs routines too, though.”
When it comes to the winter time, Dobbins is one that enjoys the holidays and being with family.
“My favorite part about winter is definitely spending break with my family. I love Christmas and shopping for gifts for people too,” Dobbins said. “My least favorite part of winter is how cold it gets! I love seeing the snow, but I’d much rather be cozy and warm inside by the fireplace.”
Sophomore criminology major Roger Dutch enjoys the holidays too, as well as winter apparel.
“I like being able to wear hoodies and sweatpants. I prefer the cold. I would rather bundle up than to have to strip down to a tank top,” said Dutch. “Something that I don’t like about the winter is that it rains and sometimes snows a lot. At home I don’t care, but here on campus I have to walk to class and walk to the gym.”
As far as school work, Dutch is not stressed at all and has been doing well in all of his classes. As someone who usually puts in work at the gym, Dutch uses the winter time to relax.
“I feel like I get lazier with the weather,” Dutch said. “If it’s really bad out I won’t feel like making the walk to the gym.”
Senior exercise science and health promotion major Kathleen Conlon’s busy schedule has made it difficult for her to reach the gym at all this whole semester.
“I haven’t been consistent with getting a workout in since the fall semester started. It’s been hectic, but there is no excuses. Working out is one of my favorite things to do and I can not wait to get back into the gym once winter break begins,” Conlon said. “The gym is my happy place and I always feel so much better after a workout.”
Conlon is one that actually enjoys the snow and winter, as it gives her an opportunity for one of her favorite activities.
“My favorite thing about the winter is definitely the snow and my favorite winter activity is snowboarding. I’m excited to hit the slopes this year cause I hear it’s supposed to be a good one for snowboarding,” Conlon said. “One thing I don’t like about the winter is that I can’t workout outside. So once some nice weather comes around I always make room for a run.”
In order to deal with the stress of her classes, Conlon keeps her cool by heading home.
“To be honest, just getting off campus is therapeutic and keeps me at ease. Who isn’t stressed out at the end of any semester?”
