Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Cabrini Women’s Tennis team faced Stockton University at home in non-conference play.

“As long as we are on our game, I think we can come out with the win.” Junior Kimberley Pepenella said.

Despite their positivity, Cabrini fell 9-0 to the division 2 program.

“I know they’re a tough and competitive team,” coach White said. ” So, it will be a good experience today, and I am looking forward to seeing how the girls compete.”

The three pairs of doubles ended 8-1 at the end of the day. Each pair worked relentlessly and with good communication to bring their best to the court.

“I think we played really well. We put up a fight like we always do. We didn’t just rollover and give up against a team we knew was tough. We fought,” junior Maggie Lavitt said after the loss.

The six Cabrini singles also fell to Stockton. Five of the six could not grab a win, but fought the whole way. Sophomore Lexi Douglas was the only Cavalier to play a tiebreaker against Stockton. She played a superset against her opponent.

Freshman Lucy Travers kept her eyes looking forward, at the end of the day.

“I think we can always keep improving at practices, cheering each other on and building one another’s confidence before each game,” Travers said.

The loss at Dixon Tennis Courts gives the Cavaliers an overall record of 3-2; however, they remain undefeated in the CSAC with a 2-0 record.

“Well, I think it helped them raise their game,” coach White said. “They knew they had really tough competitors. Even though the scores don’t show it, every one of them played to their best and tried to reach a higher level.”

The Lady Cavs return to play on Friday, Sept. 23, when they face conference competitor Neumann University at home.
