It’s not about who has the best stats, abilities, and play time. What matters is teamwork that develops charisma in their character, the student assistant soccer manager said during an interview.
“This week, Ashley Tutzauer was named conference player of the week because she has great sportsmanship. She is always very focused on putting her teammates before herself, which I think is a great skill asset to have in soccer and in the real world. I always seen something in her compared to the other player. I can’t really get it off the tip of my tongue of what so special about her. I just hope that she knows she is going places in life and that’s what is important to me as a coach,” Grace Newton said.
Tutzauer claims that she never thought she would get this kind of recognition for her achievements. “This was totally unexpected. I didn’t really think that I would be the conference player of the week. I guess if you are yourself and care for others’ well-being, that can help people like me get recognition. I don’t this award to make me any different from my teammates though. I want them to know that we are all in this together. Without my team’s support and confidence, I wouldn’t be receiving this. A message to my team would be if you don’t succeed the first time, just dust yourself off and try again,” Tutzauer said.
Teammate Madison Rooney said without teamwork none of our players would have received any recognition. “I love Ashley; she is one of my favorites! I want to congratulate her for her awesome award. She was very kind, sweet and team-oriented person. Our coaches pay attention to our team communications skills, which Ashley is very good at. I feel like she brings a lot of perseverance and strength to the team. Without her I really don’t know what the team would be like. Ashley is one quite special girl on the team,” Rooney said.
Men’s soccer player Josh Cunningham, who was also selected as conference player of the week, was speechless due to his selection. “I am complete lost for words. I didn’t think that I would be selected for this. I want to say thank you to all my coaches, teammates, friends, professors and family for believing in me. Hard work talks more than small talk. What I mean by that is, action speaks louder than words. When you’re hungry for something you are going to do whatever it takes to get what you want. That’s the attitude that people need have,” Cunningham said.
