The fast-food franchises of Chick-fil-A and Popeyes are in a debate about which one of their chicken sandwiches is better. This started to occur over social media on Aug. 12. Across the nation people debated whose sandwich that they liked to eat more. Most of the debate was on Twitter.

Soon, other fast-food chains joined the debate.  One specific chain that engaged themselves into this debate was Wendy’s. Popeyes and Wendy’s started to have a little friendly exchange over Twitter about each other’s meals that they provide to customers. This came from a New York Times Article

One man even sued Popeyes for damage to his tires when he drove extensively to find the special new chicken sandwich. NBCNews said the court date  is Oct. 28th.

Virginia Gatta, adjunct instructor here,  is someone who works for Comcast in their public relations field. She had great thoughts about this story of Popeye’s versus Chick-Fil-A. “I understand why Popeye’s decided to create their first ever chicken sandwich,” Gatta said.  She also thought that it was a great marketing strategy to offer one if people were out shopping on any given Sunday, when Chick-fil-A is closed, to have an option for potential customers. She also said that she doesn’t really eat fast-food, so Gatta can’t comment on Popeyes chicken sandwich that is being offered. It also seemed to her that Popeyes is benefitting more over this debate than Chick-fil-A.

There was also a story that was posted on CNBC.com, about a man who pulled a gun out inside of a Popeyes restaurant because they didn’t have any more of the sandwiches and he really wanted one to eat. This happened on Sept. 3rd.

Joe Hamilton, a junior finance major here, has provided his thoughts on the Chick-fil-A versus Popeye’s sandwich debate. “This was a great marketing scheme of Popeyes,” Hamilton said. Chick-fil-A is also receiving good publicity from this debate over which sandwich is better. Hamilton doesn’t have any intentions of trying the sandwich from Popeyes. He said that this debate will be fading away in the next couple of months. This also seemed like a fad in Hamilton.

Hunter Steelman, a junior biology major, said , “I like Chick-fil-A better than Popeyes.”  He hasn’t tried Popeyes sandwich and has had Chick-fil-A before. He really likes Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich. Popeyes seems to be getting more attention from this than Chick-fil-A. He has seen the different memes that were going on through the different platforms of social media.
