Men and women’s cross country season recap

As the cross country season comes to a close, students and coaches look back at their accomplishments for the year. Cabrini University’s men and women’s cross country team has finished the 2019 season with several accomplishments this year.

“This was our better season from last year,” Carmen Jones, junior marketing major, said. “It’s a difficult sport but I glad I stuck with it. To those who are interested, don’t be afraid to try it.”

Cabrini athletics to describe the season as a great season with both the men and women’s cross country team having a strong lead at the beginning of the season. But as the season progressed towards the end, the men’s cross country team had begun to received incomplete scores or no scores due to the men’s team having very few members.

“I was very excited when I saw how the men and women’s team have progressed since their first day of practice to the end of the season,” Jose Rodriguez, assistant coach of men and women’s cross country teams, said. “The women have broken their records week after week, showed up to practice every day and gave 100 percent and it paid off. On the men’s side the there were improvements with freshman runners Anthony Pietrewicz and Michael Moraschi have helped the men improve this season.”

The cross country team has proved too that they were willing to go above and beyond. According to Cabrini athletics, the women’s cross country team managed to place fifth at the Atlantic East Conference championship.

“This year I felt like we did really great,” Shaiann Lyde, junior health science major, said. “The team was way better than last year and we pushed each other to get better. If you decide to join cross country, don’t think that you have to sprint all the time. It’s your race and it’s your own pace. To the first comers take your time and you’ll get better.”

Cabrini Athletics stated that Lyde had led the women’s cross country team far this season with her placing third in the Bud Smitey Invitational. The men’s cross country team has also have improved this season despite not having enough members on the team this season. Anthony Pietrewicz placed 25th in his first 5k. They demonstrated that they can break records season after season. At the end of the 2019 season, the women have reached fifth place out of sixth.
