Fans hesitant about Disney streaming service

Last August, it was announced that Disney would be pulling its titles from the streaming service Netflix. For a few months, Disney has been publicly discussing intentions to launch a streaming service of its own. Earlier this month, Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said that while the company still plans to launch its own streaming service, Disney films won’t be leaving Netflix just yet.

It is projected that the service will be launched by some time in the late year of 2019.

Disney is already teaming up with big investors like BAMTech to help revamp all of the original Disney movies and all of the TV shows like “That’s so Raven,” “Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” “Living life with Derek,” “Kim Possible” and more.

Also, Disney is planning to launch an ESPN sports streaming service as well as promising at least about 10,000 live regional, national and international games.

This is in addition to the recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney.

The idea of Disney slowly taking back every single movie and TV show that they own under their name is a little bit upsetting to fans just because it is already hard enough that Disney does not release some of their most popular movies on Netflix.

Now it is going to be even harder for subscribers to be able to watch Disney movies, including films relating to the Marvel universe and the Star Wars franchise movies.

“Honestly, I don’t like the idea of Disney leaving Netflix just because I do not want to pay $15 a month just to watch certain movies on a different service. I rather it all be on one service so that way, I won’t have to be paying both services,” Lauren Wilhelm, a sophomore early education major, said.

“I believe that Disney shouldn’t leave Netflix because it will lose some of their viewers and, plus, I am not going to pay $15 a month just to watch some old Disney shows and movies,” Brianna Cappelli, a sophomore criminology major, said.

It was just a couple years ago that Netflix had started streaming many more of Disney’s animated films, including films from Pixar and Lucasfilm. Now Disney will be pulling some of those films from Netflix either later on this year or next.

Other subscribers are begging Disney to reconsider their decision about leaving Netflix.

“I’m pretty excited for Disney getting their own streaming service,” Lucy Dwyer, a sophomore biology major, said. “But at the same time, I do not know if I am going to be spending $15 a month when I already have Netflix.”
