There’s no question about it that Eminem has become one of the most influential rappers of the past decade. He continues to inspire people with his meaningful lyrics and attention to detail. He now continues to influence with his brand new album, “Music to Be Murdered By.” This is Eminem’s newest album that came out in 2020. It’s been about two years since he’s released a new album. This is now his 11th one.

The album has over 20 songs ranging from fun seductive songs to songs that evoke a more powerful and meaningful message. He even has some popular features in some of his songs, with one of them surprisingly being Ed Sheeran. Some students think that a lot of the songs are a mix of old Eminem from the early 2010s with a touch of the new style of rapping that is existing now.

“I feel like he’s trying to mix his sound with everyone else’s which I don’t mind,” Kathy May, sophomore biology major, said. Others felt the album had completely lost track of Eminem’s true sound so that he could play catch up with today’s popular rappers.

“I feel like he sounds like everyone else now,” Alex May, health and fitness major, said.

Eminem Song; Unaccomodating

With songs like “Unaccommodating” by young M.A or “Farewell,” it’s easy to see where some students might think that. The album has some songs where it seems like he’s going for a more common sound like other rappers from the later part of the 2010s and now. But luckily he does not depart from his style of rapping too much. There are plenty of songs on the album where you can still tell that it’s Eminem’s personal style.

“I don’t think Eminem lost his style at all. I feel like a lot of the songs still has his own personal flair,” Samantha Bell, sophomore criminology major with a minor in psychology, said.

But no matter the opinion, the album seems to be gaining some great traction. Because the album debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and it is now becoming more and more popular each day. The most popular song on the album “Godzilla” has over 68,083,785 streams on Spotify, which has quickly made it one of Eminem’s most popular songs of all time but unfortunately, there has been some unsettling controversy with some of his song lyrics. There was talk about the bombing of Ariana Grande’s concert where many had died. A lyric in one of his songs says, “I’m contemplating yelling bombs away on the game like I’m at an Ariana Grande concert.” A lot of fans are saying that Eminem went way too far with this lyric, saying that it’s insensitive to people who died that day.

“I don’t know why he would do something like that,” Tyler Jones, senior business major, said. But this isn’t the first time Eminem has used controversial lyrics in his music. He’s known for his lyrics sometimes being out of the box and crazy. But this lyric people thought went way too far.

Eminem’s album seems to be a great success. But it’s also grown some great controversy because of some highly insensitive lyrics. But all in all, it seems to be another great home run for the legend Eminem.
