Cabrini University’s brand new residence hall, South, has just opened this 2019-2020 school year and students have already created their own opinions on their new housing.

South is a three-story residence hall that houses approximately 180 students. Each unit in South includes two double dorm rooms, and one communal bathroom shared among four students. In order to live in South you must be a rising sophomore or junior. Freshman and seniors are not permitted to live in the new residence hall.

South has gotten a lot of recognition from its residents for all of its brand new qualities that other, older, residence halls may lack.

“It (South) is definitely a big upgrade from freshman dorms. It’s a way better living situation than it was before, and is a lot more comfortable,”Aaron Topfer, sophomore resident, said. “The laundry rooms run really well, they don’t really get as backed up as the old ones in East.”

Many students also appreciate the many different lounges and common areas available for them to study, do their homework or just hang out with their friends. South also includes more modern amenities such as brand new vending machines and elevators, which are available to all residents.

Although South might now seem like Cabrini’s “best” housing option on campus, some students have still experienced some difficulties within their first few weeks living in South.

“In the beginning I had troubles with my shower working and getting into the buildings wifi,” Bridget O’Neill, sophomore resident, said. “There is also never any open parking spots that are close to South. A lot of people have to park all the way near Dixon or House 1.”

Some students also feel that all the TVs around South are a bit useless since none of them have working cable. In order for a resident to use one of the TVs they must have an HDMI cable to connect their own computer to the screen. Other students wish that instead of having one communal kitchen for the whole building to use, that each unit had their own small kitchen space in the rooms’ common area, to complete the apartment atmosphere of each room.

South Residence Hall has been the talk of campus since they began building it back in 2018, leaving staff and students excited to see what living there would be like. Now that it is finally open, and residents have gotten comfortable with their brand new housing, it is safe to say South is meeting many expectations.
