The University’s prestigious Woodcrest Magazine has been getting quite some attention in the last year.

Francesa Maslin, head editor of the Woodcrest Magazine, provided many interesting facts and details about the magazine.

“It [the Woodcrest Magazine] has been a force to be reckoned with for years. As I look back in our archives, I see our earliest edition of the digital magazine is 2010! I am uncertain as to when the magazine was originally started, but we have online records of it dating back to at least 2010,” Maslin said.

The Woodcrest Magazine holds contests every two weeks for any student wanting to have their piece published in the magazine. “Any Cabrini student can submit their works. The content we receive from our willing participants will be reviewed by our editorial staff and the winning piece will receive a monetary prize. The pieces will all be considered for publication in our next edition.”

“Submissions we are looking for include (but are not limited to) satire, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and reviews. We also accept visual arts and original music. Any and all submissions will be reviewed by our editorial staff for consideration of publication,” Maslin said.

Columbia Scholastic Press Association Seal

“In 2018-2019 the magazine received a Gold medalist critique, with three distinguished honors from Columbia ScholasticPress Association. Given our acclimations nationally, we are diligent in selecting the best quality work,” said Maslin.

The magazine offers workshops to students that submit their works, extra help to improve their writing skills and/or strengthen their voice in their pieces. Their editorial staff is made up of students within the study of English, writing and communication departments (but is not limited to those studies).

The next edition of the magazine will be published near the end of Spring 2020. The magazine is only published at the end of the academic year. Students that are looking to submit their pieces to be published in the next edition can submit their work through email at woodcrestproject@gmail.com.
