Success is something that is fought for, it is something that is earned by hard work and dedication.

Two Cabrini students on the men and women’s swim teams have recently won the Atlantic East “Weekly Honors Award” (AEC). Tara McCloskey and Cameron Mousley were named swimmers of the week for their achievements. Throughout the season, Mousley and McCloskey have proved that the worked hard for these awards.

“I swam the 400 individual medleys, then the  200-yard freestyle and won both of these events.” Cameron Mousley, junior business management major, said. “But mostly I think this was from our training trip. Then when we came back, we training pretty hard and pushed hard through the first meet. From this point onward I know I have to practice hard and take it like the outcome I really want.”

Cabrini Athletics states that Mousley had won these individual victories in record time. Mousley won the 400 individual medleys with a record time of 4:32.63 and the 200-yard freestyle with 1:50.97.

“We’ve been training really hard and the coaches have been pushing us to the best of our ability to perform very highly at the meets.” Tara McCloskey, junior criminology major, said.

“We did practice hard during our training trip down in Orlando. We had doubles everyday morning and afternoon. But once we came back we got right back into the grind of our coaches pushing us to our limits. Going forward, if I keep putting my best effort into practicing on a daily basis then I will be ready in a few weeks when champs come around.”

According to Cabrini Athletics, McCloskey led the women’s swim team to victory when she swam the 100-yard breaststroke and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 1:09:73 and 5:44:0. She was also ranked as the third-fastest marks of the season.

“They won this award for the first competition we had against Widener University in early 2020.” Cindy Ilkeler, head of the men’s and women’s swim coach, said. “Cameron and Tara won two individual events and contributed to relays. Both of them are extremely hard workers, they always stay on task and give 110 percent every day. Both of them deserve this award for the hard work they showed at the meet and from their training.”

Ilkeler believed that the award gave them that extra boost of confidence to push forward for the championships. She can’t wait to see what the future holds at championships when Cameron and Tara are well energized and ready to compete. She also believes that Cameron and Tara might be able to carry the swim team all the to the championships.

Cameron and Tara are proud of receiving an honor in a rigorous sport. Both intend to keep striving hard and putting in their best effort all the way until the championships.
